Religious leaders planning to set up Islamic courts in Puntland

Mogadishu Radio HornAfrik (in Somali)

Some of the religious leaders in some parts in Puntland are carrying out activities opposed to the regional administration of Puntland. Nuh Musa sent us this report:

[Musa] Many religious leaders in the various towns in Puntland are busy preparing to set up Islamic courts, independent of the regional administration. Some of the religious leaders had previously voiced their support for efforts made by the Islamic courts in southern Somalia, but at the time did not say whether they would establish similar Islamic courts in the region.

Other reports say the religious leaders are making efforts to establish the courts [repetition as heard], and at the same time amassing arms.

The regional administration of Puntland has not yet commented on the issue, other than a previous statement where it said it would not cooperate with the courts.
