Rome “Italian Home Service” radio — 1930 GMT
[From Renzo Martinelli, RAI Mogadiscio correspondent] The head of the Cabinet of the Italian administration in Somaliland has produced proof, at a press conference here, that the Young Somali League alone is responsible for the incidents at Kismayo. Hence the party is declared subversive, which amounts to banning it. However, this step con be made effective only by the magistrates.
The U.N. Consultative Council, also indignant at the horrible event, is completely in agreement with the Italian administration. Further details of the incident show that the attackers were Communist sympathizers, and that Moslem fanaticism had a large share in the episode. A former convict, arrested for incitement to revolt but freed on bail, is being sought. The situation is completely under control, and the police occupy all strategic points. The great majority of the Somalis deplore the attack. The African Union Party has loyally offered its collaboration.
