There are reports of fighting between rival Somali factions outside the capital, Mogadishu.
Forces loyal to the United Somali Congress (USC), which overthrew President Siad Barre two weeks ago, are said to have clashed with members of the Somali Patriotic Movement (SPM) yesterday on the road to the town of Afgooye.
At least 75 seriously wounded civilians have been treated for bullets and shrapnel wounds at a hospital in Mogadishu.
A BBC correspondent in the capital says it is the first time clashes have been reported between factions which had previously opposed the ousted president.
