Somali Students in Egypt Issue Appeal

Cairo, Voice of the Arabs radio (in Arabic) – 1825 CMT–L

At this moment, when the armies of NATO have been thrown into the Mediterranean, at this moment when Port Said stands as a symbol of the triumph of the will of the people and their forces, peace and civilization, at this very same moment it is reported that an agreement has been reached between France and Israel, giving Israel certain concessions in Djibouti: the right to establish war factories there and some other factories in addition to the full control of the harbor. The agreement also stipulated that Israel should meet any financial deficit in return for the numerous concessions France has granted Israel.

To all honorable nationals of Somaliland, women and men, workers, merchants, Intelligentsia, and all nationalist groups struggling for a better future, for the happiness of the coming generations, to all political parties, to all trade unions, to all of you, we appeal to struggle against the Zionists who wish to repeat the tragedy of Palestine on our good soil. The bloody battles which you used to fight against imperialism and French monopoly in Djibouti should be revived to crush and destroy the remains of the sick body of imperialism. Today the liberation battle is one all over the world. All progressive forces all over the world support your struggle.

French imperialism is collapsing. Before you, the people of Indochina defeated French imperialism. Before you, the Algerian people defeated French imperialism. French imperialism could not, even with the assistance of NATO fleets, defeat the resistance of Port Said. Should you initiate your revolt they will never be able to resist you, because military supplies will never reach them there, as a result of the blocking of the Sues Canal.

These Zionist war factories are being erected in our land to be used against our future and our revolutionary potentialities and, above all, for the destruction of the liberation movements in the Arab East. Only yesterday British imperialism gave part of our land to Abyssinia. Our people resisted this move with valor but this resistance by our people failed as a result of the division of our national liberation movement, the diffusion of our enemies, and the isolation of our national liberation movement from the other liberation movements in the Middle East.

The failure of the resistance of our people was also due to our reliance on a political struggle without a military struggle. We must learn from our past mistakes in order that we may be able to lead our national liberation movement to triumph. Yesterday British imperialism gave part of our Homeland to Abyssinia, and today French imperialism is giving another part to Zionism.

The hour of liberation is striking. O people of Somaliland, rise and revolt against imperialism in all its forms, against exploitation. Long live the people of Somaliland! Long live the people of Somaliland, independent and united! Long live the national liberation movements in the Middle East!
