The spokesman of Union of Islamic Courts [UIC] in Mogadishu, Abdirahim Suuley, says that his fighters defeated Somali government troops during fierce fighting in Mogadishu’s Towfiiq locality overnight. The spokesman added that his fighters had killed three soldiers and seized four. He said that they had released the captured soldiers but vowed to continue fighting Ethiopian troops and their collaborators.

The spokesman said that his group did not recognize the recent Djibouti agreement with the government of Somalia, saying that the UIC would continue its struggle against what he called the colonialist Ethiopian troops in Somalia.
