Islamic Courts Used ‘Highly’ Trained Militiamen in Mogadishu Fighting

New reports are emerging about the [22-25 March] militia fighting in the outskirts of northeast Mogadishu. The Islamic courts had fielded highly trained snipers who shot their rival militiamen in the head, forcing them to retreat.

Dr. Ahmed Tajir, one of the doctors at Keysaney hospital said 173 wounded people, most of them militiamen, were brought to the facility with head and abdominal gunshot wounds. Military experts said that Islamic courts militiamen who had participated in the fighting were highly trained and had used sniper rifles mounted with telescopes.

Meanwhile, some of the leaders of the Alliance for Restoration of Peace and Counterterrorism who have not officially admitted a battle defeat are mobilizing for another round of battle against Islamic courts militiamen who had fought on the side of Abukar Umar Addan [prominent Mogadishu businessman]. Islamic militiamen had used a new battle tactic in the fighting.
