The chairman of Mogadishu Islamic courts, Shaykh Shariff, has said a man suspected to be the murderer of Shaykh Yusuf Farah who was last night gunned down in [Mogadishu’s] Waberi District, has been arrested. Abdiqadir Ahmad Olad has the details:
[Olad] Shaykh Shariff who briefed the Shabeelle Media Network, said a man who has been taken into custody by the Mogadishu Islamic courts is under investigation for the murder.
[Shariff] A man who is a prime suspect, has been arrested and he is under investigations. He was arrested in the area where the deceased Shaykh was killed. He is a prime suspect and is being held by the courts.
[Olad] Shaykh Yusuf Farah, who was the Imam of Musa Boqor mosque in Waberi District, Mogadishu, was killed by gunmen last night as he left the mosque. He was carrying books in a black plastic paper bag, according to his family.
As of now, the real motive behind the killing of the cleric is unknown. This is not the first incident of its kind in Mogadishu. Last year, a cleric who was an imam of a mosque in Tawfiq estate was killed.
This act is discordant with the Islamic religion and the Somali culture which have high respect for Islamic clerics.
