Baghdad — The newspaper BABIL has denounced the ugly carnage in which more than 100 Somalis were killed, saying the United States has started to bog down in the sands of a new Vietnamese war.
In its editorial today, the paper says defenseless people were decimated because they rejected foreign invasion. The paper notes the difficult, embarrassing situation in which the Clinton administration has once again put the United States, after the bitter, rough Vietnam experience.
Yesterday’s massacre generated a wave of violent demonstrations that swept through Somalia against the foreign invaders, leaving four foreign reporters dead. BABIL sheds light on recent clashes in Somalia, climaxing in yesterday’s events. This unambiguously means all the Somali people are engaged in a struggle against foreign invasion.
The paper says U.S. troops used the slogan of combating hunger to enter into Somalia, noting how things recently developed after the real objective of the U.S. invasion was revealed. Even if they wear the uniforms of other nations, U.S. troops are now up against the rebellious Somali people defending their independence.
Concluding, BABIL wonders if Clinton will be able to get the United States off the hook of the Somali predicament. Will Clinton redress the situation in Somalia the same way he did when he escaped military service during the Vietnam dilemma?
