Now we shall tell you about the formation of the Democratic Front for Salvation of Somalia [DFSS]:
The Somali people, having lived under the difficult conditions caused by the dictatorial regime of Siad Barre and having given up all hope for future democratic political, economic and social changes for the promotion of the Somali nation’s interests, and having made several armed attempts to bring about changes, which unfortunately did not succeed; and the terrorist regime, having fully submitted to international imperialism and jeopardized the freedom and existence of the Somali nation, a political and armed struggle began, led by those who volunteered to redeem their nation’s sovereignty and their motherland’s freedom, aimed at toppling the blood-sucking regime of Muhammad Siad Barre.
Therefore, after engaging the Siad regime in a long armed struggle in which tangible victories were won, a final state has now been reached when Somalia will be redeemed from the Mogadishu terrorists, and a bright future, democracy, lasting peace and cooperation in all fields will be fostered in this region, particularly the Horn of Africa. The groups facing terrorist Siad Barre in the political and armed struggle accordingly realized that it was inevitable for them to unite to speed up victory. And so, a meeting took place between the Somali Salvation Front (SSF), the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Somalia (DFLS) and the Somali Workers Party (SWP) from 19 September to 5 October 1981.
Col Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmad, Ahmad Dahir Hasan, Musa (Uthman) Farah, Ali Handulleh Togdheer and Harun Diriyeh Adan represented the SSF.
Abd ar-Rahman Aidid Ahmad, Abdullahi Abd ar-Rahman Adan, Abubakar Haji Muhammad Husayn, Abdi Muhammad Amin and Ahmad Ismail Shabel represented the DFLS.
