Ethiopian troops defeated in northern border battles

[Excerpt] While firing continued, Amhara military aircraft bombed the Somali side of Daba Gorayale. The Amhara army increased in number and attacked the village of Duruksi which is 40 miles east of Daba Gorayale.

Our nationalist army has driven back the enemy from all the areas he entered, and fought him tenaciously and defended their country and national dignity and themselves, although the enemy thought that he could enter Somali territory by force.

The latest report, which we have just received, states that an Amhara force launched attacks against Ina Guha and Abdulkadir. As far as we know and on the strength of reports we have received, the areas where the Amhara’s committed aggression against us through surprise attacks are Daba Gorayale, Duruksi, Ina Guha and Abdulkadir.

The latest report we have received tonight says that the Amhara army has been defeated and driven back from all the areas it has infiltrated. In all the areas they attacked, the Amhara used ground forces and aircraft, all of whom closed ranks to fight us.

Whatever they used in the fighting, and whatever was in their mind, the Amharas have been defeated and pushed back from all areas they infiltrated.

Many people from both sides have been wounded, although the number is not known.

As is customary, and as we have always known it to do, Addis Ababa radio today reported the fighting before anything had in fact happened and a single bullet had been fired, when it reported the outbreak of fighting to international journalists and world news agencies.
