Addis Ababa — Mr. Getachew Mekasha, Acting Assistant Minister and head of the African Department in the Ethiopian Government, summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Somalia on July 21st and handed him a strongly-worded note regarding the:
“…malicious campaign being launched by certain segments of the Government and people of Somalia against the national and territorial integrity of Ethiopia.”
The note said among other things:
“The Imperial Government of Ethiopia have watched with increasing concern and dismay the repeated rebuffs and failures which the Ethiopian Government met from Somalia in its sincere efforts for friendship.”
The note referred to the incidents on the Ethiopian-Somalia border in the region of Aisha, Danot and Daghabour and condemned the:
“…’deliberate provocation’ perpetrated by Somalia with the purpose of harassing Ethiopian subjects and officials.”
