IMPERIALISM BLAMED FOR SALAH DEATH

Cairo radio “Voice of the Arabs” (in Arabic) — 1920 GMT

(Excerpts of commentary by Muhammad Uruq on assassination of Egyptian representative in the UN Trusteeship of Somaliland)

Small nations want life and freedom for themselves as well as for the whole world. Small nations do not want life and freedom for themselves at the expense of others but only want to live and let live.

Why should imperialism oppose these natural rights of the peoples and try to block their road of freedom and hinder their progress towards freedom?

Why should the imperialist rally his forces and potentialities whenever he is confronted with rising vigilance in those small nations?

Why should imperialism resort to ways and means contrary to the principles of honor and conscience in an attempt to oppose the progress of the vigilance of the people?

Imperialism is always imperialism in any form or at any time, it lives at the expense of others. Its prosperity is at the expense of the prosperity of others and its security is at the expense of the security of others. Imperialism has no conscience or ethics.

This time imperialism is trying to strike in Somaliland. Imperialism has become aware of the fact that the struggling people of Somaliland are rising and marching toward freedom and independence. As a result of this, imperialism is endeavoring to stab the people of Somaliland in the back and hinder their progress towards freedom and grandeur. Imperialism is now closing its nets around Somaliland.

But the people of Somaliland are far from being caught by imperialism. The ways and means of imperialism are always the same and the people have become wise to them. The imperialist has taken note of the gigantic efforts made by the sincere men of the people of Somaliland — men who are honest in their country’s cause and worthy of its trust.

The criminal hand of imperialism has assassinated the martyr of Somaliland, Kamal al-Din Salah, Egypt’s delegate to the Consultative Committee to the Trusteeship Council of the U.N. in Somaliland. Yes, the criminal hand of imperialism has assassinated him because the people of Somaliland were in need of education and the late Kamal al-Din Salah provided them with schools and sent some of them to Europe.

The criminal hand of imperialism has assassinated him because the people of Somaliland were in need of medical aid and Kamal al-Din Salah provided them with hospitals. The criminal hand of imperialism has assassinated him because Kamal al-Din Salah destroyed all the hopes of the imperialist in Somaliland.

The Somali students in Egypt issued a statement declaring that imperialism has assassinated the Egyptian delegate to the Consultative Committee of the U.N. Trusteeship Council because of his well recognized and courageous stand against the imperialistic elements in Somaliland.

This plot has been exposed. The truth will be declared officially and a new chapter of shame will be added to the history of imperialism. The Egyptian Government has demanded that the group which is to investigate this crime should be international.

The peoples will in the end undoubtedly survive and attain their freedom and independence.
